Historical Notes:
Contemporary history of Azerbaijan dates back to May 28, 1918 when Azerbaijan
Democratic Republic was proclaimed as the first Muslim state with democratic
principles immediately after victory over Bolsheviks. However, Soviet army
launched a strong offensive in spring of 1920 and proclaimed Azerbaijan as one
of the Soviet Republics of Soviet Empire on April 28, 1920. Azerbaijan re-gained
its independence on October 18, 1991. Azerbaijan is now one of the fastest
growing economies in the world.
We are honored to invite you to join the celebration of this significant day for all
Azerbaijanis around the world. The reception is to commence on October 20,
2006, at 19:00 hours.
